Movie Review: Resident Evil Retribution

Few years ago i was sleeping one night when i woke up and put on the TV seeing as i was bored and there was a movie showing where this bad ass chick was killing zombies and in a particular scene she ran up to the wall and did a round house kick to kill a zombie dog. I was trying to figure out what the title of the movie when i saw this logo

It was then i called upon the video gaming memory block end of my brain and remembered that this was the logo of the Umbrella corporation in the Resident Evil game. I was excited that resident evil had finally been brought to the big screen and was liking what i saw.

Fast forward to a few years later and 3 installments after the 1st movie, director Paul W.S Anderson decided to add another installment to the series titling it RESIDENT EVIL : RETRIBUTION with Milla Jovovich as Alice, Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine, Michelle Rodriguez as Rain, Aryana Engineer as Becky, Bingbing Li as Ada Wong, Boris Kodjoe as Luther West, Johann Urb as Leon S. Kennedy, Kevin Durand as Barry Burton, Oded Fehr as Todd / Carlos, Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker.

RE5 continues from where RE4 stopped with umbrella agents attacking arcadia. Alice wakes up in an Umbrella facility that is controlled by the Red Queen, that can simulate some of the world major cities. Alice must now escape from the facility with the help of former Umbrella Security operative Ada Wong with the aid of Albert Wesker and the team he has sent to assist her consisting  of Luther and Leon with the Red Queen, Jill and Rain after them all.

In this installment, Anderson must be given some credit for bringing together the previous parts, their characters & some of the characters in the video game. The CGI and action scenes where quite cool which made me wonder how my popcorn could finish 😦 and i must admit the monsters where quite freaking and annoyingly fast. As usual Alice was a bad ass zombie killer 😀 .

Now to be honest after the first two installments Resident Evil has gone from a good sci-fi action movie to a brainless action zombie killing movie which has left a lot of lovers of the game and the initial movie disappointed but i can say this RE5 is the best brainless action flick i have seen in a long time.

Rating: 6/10

Cinema Worthiness: If you know you haven’t got high hopes for this movie and you love action flicks then i would recommend it for you but if your neither of the aforementioned please stay away.

Favourite Quotes

Luther West: Sweet ride.
Alice: Well, this is Moscow.

Alice: I’m gonna kill you.
Albert Wesker: Perhaps, but first you have work to do.

Alice: Boys? You mind?
Leon S. Kennedy: Shall we?
Barry Burton: My pleasure.

The Red Queen: Project Alice, You’re all going to die down here.
Alice: I’ve heard that before.

Rain: You can’t kill me.
Alice: I don’t need to.

Rain: You two made it… I thought I was the only one that survived. What is this place and why is everything in Russian? And what’s with the S&M getup?
