So it’s a review of the G.I. Joe sequel. I find the first G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, very interesting, in fact i rate it a 7 and it has a high rewatchability for me.
G.I Joe: Retaliation is directed by Jon M. Chu, written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and a cast starring Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Jonathan Pryce as The President, Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow, Elodie Yung as Jinx, Ray Stevenson as FireFly, Adrianne Palicki as Jaye, Channing Tatum as Duke, Arnold Vosloo as Zartan, RZA as Blind Master, Luke Bracey as Cobra Commander, Ray Park as Snake Eyes, and Bruce Willis as General Joe Colton.
Retaliation picks off from where Rise of the Cobra ended with Duke as the commander of the Joes. Pakistan is in crises and the Joes are sent in on a retrieval mission to secure the country’s nukes unknowingly falling into a trap where all the Joes are killed save for a few. The remaining Joes, strive to find out who ordered the strike on them and stop the Cobra’s commander world domination plan.
Retaliation script… 1 word… CRAP!!! Rise of the Cobra might not have been solid either but it appealed to my lighter side. Retaliation on the other hand was too serious, lots of scenes where unnecessarily prolonged, the twist added was annoying and the fact that the ended it in a way that there’s likely to be another sequel (SPOILER ALERT!!!)… Sighs.
Though i have to give the fight scenes some credit. Snake Eyes, Jinx and Storm Shadow’s fight scenes where cool :D, Rza seriously needs to go film school again, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is getting better with every movie and Bruce Willis, well he’s Bruce Willis 😉 . Though you could not help liking some of the Joe’s equipments as a nerd (which i am… :D).
Cinema Worthiness: Ensure you watch on the days prices are low / Good for those that enjoy brainless action movies.
Joe Colton: The president says I can’t come out of retirement. He didn’t say anything about re-enlisting.
Captain Duke Hauser: Drive it like you stole it!
Roadblock: [to Duke] You need a new catchphrase.
Roadblock: In the immortal words of Jay-Z: “Whatever deity may guide my life, Dear Lord don’t let me die tonight!”
Joe Colton: You alright?
Lady Jaye: Yeah. Are you alright?
Joe Colton: My cholesterol is a little high.
