Movie Review: The Host 2013

I have never read a Stephanie Meyer book even though i have the entire twilight saga book locked away somewhere. But i have a good feeling they won’t appeal to me as they are mushy with extreme coded into it as can be seen from The Twilight Saga.

The Host is a movie based on the book by the same title written by  Stephenie Meyer who is also responsible for the script alongside Andrew Niccol who also directs the movie. The movie stars Saoirse Ronan as Melanie / Wanda, Diane Kruger as The Seeker, Max Irons as Jared Howe, Jake Abel as Ian O’Shea, Scott Lawrence as Doc, and Chandler Canterbury as Jamie.

The Host script focuses when in the future when aliens called souls have come to earth and use human beings as their host. Not all humans are happy with this and hence this leads to some humans resisting. Enter Melanie, who is being hunted by Seekers (alien dudes & chicks who are looking for humans who are yet to be infected) and has a soul called Wanderer put into her. From then an ongoing mental battle goes on with Melanie trying to regain control of her body from Wanderer, while wanderer is trying to get used to her new body, emotions and earth. Together they will go on a journey that proves love is all we need to survive in this world.

The movie is a chick flick and even at that am not sure most ladies will be amused or captivated by it but hey that’s my opinion. The movie hardly aroused my curiosity let alone get my attention. Acting was average but i feel they could have done better with both the script and acting.

Rating: 5/10

Cinema Worthiness:  Not worth your time even if your bored silly. See it on DVD not in the cinemas

Movie Quotes

Wanderer/Wanda: [softly, in awed voice] He sees everything. He’s not insane, he’s a genius!
Melanie: [voice] I think he might be both.

Jared Howe: I haven’t seen another human for years.
Melanie: I’m guessing you haven’t kissed anyone in a while either.

Melanie: Kiss me like you want to get slapped.
