[Movie Review] Thor: Dark World

Odin Son… A hammer so heavy that the Hulk could not lift it. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a review of Thor: Dark World.

The Knight and his Lady
The Knight and his Lady

THE BRAINS: Directed by Alan Taylor, screenplay by Christopher YostChristopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, story by Don Payne & Robert Rodat and a cast consisting of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane FosterTom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Christopher Eccleston as Malekith, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Zachary Levi as FandralIdris Elba as HeimdallRene Russo as FriggaAdewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Algrim / KurseKat Dennings as Darcy LewisStellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig. Check the trailer out below.

THE PLOT: Thor tries to stop the leader of the Dark Elves, Malekith from using the Aether to send the universe into darkness while at the same time trying to protect the 9 realms and save the woman he loves.

THE ANALYSIS: Firstly, this is way better than the first installment and i enjoyed every single moment of it. The plot was well organized and afforded one to understand Loki better as his character was explored a little more and Asgard scenery shown more. The action scenes where wonderful to say the least with my picks being Queen Frigga against Malekith and Thor against Malekith in the 3rd act. The acting was awesome with Tom Hiddlestone as Loki as the most outstanding performer (P.S If they intend to reboot Thor or Loki in the near future, whoever is picking Loki’s role should understudy Hiddlestone well enough #NuffSaid), Rene Russo played her role well enough. Visuals and music were also okay and i must say it was a worthy watch. Currently according to Yahoo Movies, the movie has raked in $86.1 million in the domestic box office this weekend and earned $109.4 million when it opened internationally last weekend and $94 million internationally this weekend.

FINAL JUDGEMENT: As i stated earlier, this installment was way better and more developed. As usual Marvel did drop a mid & post credit scene [Never leave the cinema hall up until the credits are done showing when seeing a marvel movies], which showed a guy known as the Collector who is likely to be explored more in the upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy :D. My advice, do go see this movie ASAP 😉

RATING: 8/10

MOVIE QUOTES

Jane Foster: I saw you with the Avengers in New York!
Thor: I was defending the Earth!
Jane Foster: Is that your excuse?
Thor: Yes!
[pause]
Jane Foster: It’s not terrible…

Loki: [tries to steer the boat into a tiny crevice in the mountain wall] If it were easy, everyone would do it.
Thor: Are you mad?
Loki: Possibly.

[Thor and Loki commandeer a Harrow]
Loki: Look, why don’t you let me take over? I’m the best pilot in Asgard!
Thor: Yes, but out of the two of us, which can ACTUALLY fly?
[the Harrow takes out a building]
Thor: Not a word…

Odin: What is this goat doing at a banquet?
Jane Foster: Did he just…? Who do you think you are?
Odin: I am Odin. King of Asgard. Protector of the Nine Realms.
Jane Foster: Oh. Well I’m… not a goat…
Jane Foster: [to Thor] You told your dad about me?

Loki: After all this time, now you come to visit me, brother? Why? To mock?
Thor: I need your help. And I wish I could trust you…
Loki: If you did, you’d be the fool I always took you for.

  1. Good review. The type of fun, loud, action blockbuster we’d expect to see in the summer, but works fine as a last bit of joy and pleasure before we get all of these mega-serious, Oscar-bait projects in the next few months.

    1. Exactly… Your comment is spot on. Really looking forward to next year movies though. Apart from Hunger Games and Hobbit no other high profile /expectations movie is showing except the Oscars possible nominees for the remainder part of 2013

  2. Great review! I also really liked the movie, although I didn’t like it quite as much as Iron Man 3. Or Man of Steel… Or The Wolverine. Hahaha. But still, good, fun movie! Check out my blog and my review if you get the chance!

    1. Iron Man 3, well I will let that slide, Man of Steel, no arguments there but wolverine, no way… Huh huh… My opinion though is that Thor: Dark World is way better than The Wolverine
