[Movie Review] Captain America: The Winter Soldier

So far so good this year in the movies, is beginning to pick up with nice releases coming out almost every Friday and among them was the sequel of 2011 Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger titled, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

THE BRAINS & CAST: The movie is directed by Anthony & Joe Russo, with writing credits going to Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, Ed Brubaker, & Joe Simon Jack Kirby and casts CHRIS EVANS as Steve Rodgers/Captain America, SAMUEL L. JACKSON as Nick Fury, SCARLETT JOHANSSON as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, ROBERT REDFORD as Alexander Pierce, SEBASTIAN STAN as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, ANTHONY MACKIE as Sam Wilson/Falcon & EMILY VANCAMP as Kate/Agent 13.

THE PLOT: Picking up from where The Avengers left off, Captain America now works alongside with S.H.I.E.L.D in quelling threats and in the process uncovers a plot so deep that will change the course of everyone connected with S.H.I.E.L.D and the entire world. Check the trailer out below.

ANALYSIS: Firstly, I must commend the Russo brothers for the originality brought to play in the Winter Soldier. It must be noted that the CGI in this movie was toned down a great deal hence which made the movie look original especially with the fight scenes which were awesome to say the least. This does not mean the visuals were not excellent as always because they were. Character portrayal by the actors where great though it would have been more interesting if some characters got more screen time even though they made best use of the time given to them. Character development was awesome and I must hail MARVEL for the continuation they achieve in their shows and Winter Soldier does not fall short. As usual Stan Lee did make a cameo which I must confess I was a bit slow to observe until the scene had passed.

SUMMARY: Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a great movie with a great plot and a wonderful sense of originality that leaves you amazed and satisfied at the end. Worth seeing in the cinema and on Blu-Ray when it’s lands on the Blu-Ray platform.

Sam Wilson: How do we tell the good guys from the bad guys?
Steve Rogers: If they’re shooting at you, they’re bad!
Sam Wilson: You’re a lot heavier than you look.
Steve Rogers: I had a big breakfast.
Baron Wolfgang von Strucker: This isn’t the age of spies. This is not even the age of heroes. This is the age of miracles… and there’s nothing more horrifying than a miracle.
Natasha Romanoff: Where did Captain America learn to steal a car?
Steve Rogers: Nazi Germany. And we’re borrowing. Get your feet off the dash.
Nick Fury: Get me Hill now!
Fury Car: Communications array is offline.
Nick Fury: Then what’s not broken?
Fury Car: Air conditioning is fully operational.

  1. Great review. I loved the film and thought the new thriller aspect of the film took Marvel into a new Genre even if in a relatively small way. Very much looking forward to the next one 😀

    1. Thanks. Can’t wait for the next installment and with what has happened here and in Agents of Shield, would be nice to see what would be cooking in Avengers 2.
